Unmatched is a highly asymmetric miniature combat game for two or four players. Each hero is represented by a unique deck of cards designed to evoke their style and legend. Tactical movement and no-luck combat resolution create a unique play experience that rewards expertise, but just as you master one set, new heroes arrive to provide all-new match-ups.
Battles are resolved quickly by comparing attack and defense cards. The unique effects of each card and a simple but deep timing system, however, lead to interesting decisions every time. The game also includes an updated version of Tannhäuser’s line-of-sight system for ranged attacks and area effects.
The whole world is a stage in Unmatched: Slings and Arrows, while the Globe Theatre is a battlefield. William Shakespeare leads three of his wondrous characters into battle: The Wayward Sisters, Hamlet and Titania. Shakespeare’s deck, designed by Jonathan Guberman, was one of the winning decks in a 2020 design contest and rewards players for completing lines in iambic pentameter. The Wayward Sisters, second in that competition by Jason Hager, is a multi-hero deck that challenges you to bring the witches’ ale-engineeries to life with crafty coordination.
